National BusinessWomen's Week Benton Co. Business and Professional Women (BPW) and BPW/USA announce the 79th annual National Business Women's Week™ (NBWW) October 19-25, 2008. Since its creation in 1928, NBWW has been sponsored by BPW/USA for the purpose of recognizing and honoring the achievements of working women throughout history. NBWW offers communities, companies and organizations an opportunity to celebrate and acknowledge their contributions. It also offers a chance for local BPW organizations across the country to recognize companies and individuals that have made strides toward improving workingwomen's lives in their communities. Members of Benton Co. BPW will meet with Benton Co. Mayor Jim Wiseman who will proclaim October 19-25 as National Businesswomen’s Week in Benton Co. The proclamation will urge all citizens of Benton Co. to join this salute to working women by encouraging and promoting the celebration of the achievements of all business and professional women as they contribute daily to our economic, civic and cultural purposes. Each U.S. president since Herbert Hoover has opened the first day of NBWW with a letter recognizing the contributions and achievements of working women. “NBWW is a terrific way to honor women in businesses in Camden and all of Benton County" .
Not only do working women constitute 69 million of the nation's work force, but they strive to serve their communities, their states and their nation in professional, civic and cultural capacities. Women-owned businesses account for 28 percent of all U.S. business, generating $1.2 trillion in sales. The major goals of BPW/USA, which was founded in 1919, are to promote equality for all women and to help create better conditions for businesswomen through the study of social, educational, economic and political problems. .
With 1,500 Local Organizations across the country and members in every congressional district, BPW/USA is the leading advocate for millions of workingwomen on work-life balance and workplace equity issues. BPW/USA is the most powerful organization in the United States for working women. They exist to help women advance their career goals—higher salaries, stronger businesses, pay equity, equal opportunity and more rewarding careers. Some of the benefits of being a member are providing networking opportunities, skill-building and educational opportunities, and legislative visibility. Benton Co. BPW provides members with professional development programs, networking, participation in grassroots activism, and opportunities to support scholarships for disadvantaged women. For membership information, please call President Rhonda Griffith at 584-2495 or visit www.bpwusa.org .
To celebrate this 79th anniversary, Benton Co. BPW will hold their annual banquet on Monday, October 27 at 6:00 p.m. at Country and Western Steak House. At that time they will honor their Woman of the Year—a working woman who has made significant contributions for women in Benton Co. They will also award their annual scholarship to a non-traditional student. If you are interested in attending this dutch-treat dinner and honoring working women, contact Rhonda Griffith. Former Women of the Year are invited, as well as past BPW scholarship recipients.
